Hello—My name is Karen Conrad! I have been teaching fourth grade in the Mt. Pleasant Community School District for several years. I love teaching fourth grade for many reasons. It’s a big transition year for students as they become more independent and able to try so many new things. However, they are still excited about learning and, generally, feel good about school. It’s a great age!

I have degrees in Elementary Education, Psychology, and Sociology, all from Iowa Wesleyan College. I like to think that all of these areas help me to better understand and work with children.

I believe that when students, teachers, and family all work together toward the same goal, great things can happen. I tell students that my job is to help them do their job—which is to be the best learner they can be! Because we’re all working together, communication is vital. I can be reached at my school email karen.conrad@mtpcsd.org or by telephone at 385-7765. In my classroom, I want kids to realize that learning happens at every age and in all kinds of places. I still get excited when I learn new things and I hope I pass that on to my students.

Besides teaching, I am a nature lover and avid outdoors person who loves to travel. I live on a forest reserve with my husband, Tim, and my three children, Amelia, Ethan, and Ellie. While our oldest two are off to college, our youngest one (and our menagerie of pets) keep us busy!

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
