Hello everyone! My name is Phil Kenney, and I am the school counselor for Mount Pleasant High School & Wisdom Quest.  This is my third year in the Mount Pleasant Community School District as the high school counselor.  In addition to my role as the high school counselor, I also coach 7th grade football coach at the middle school and varsity boys track at the high school.  I am looking forward to another great school year and furthering my role as a member of our overall school culture.

My work experience includes working with adolescents in substance abuse rehabilitation, and school counseling at both Lone Tree Community School & City High School in Iowa City.

I feel the most important part of my job is to be there for ALL students regarding their social/emotional health and well-being.  I’d like ALL students here to know that no issue is too small to come in and talk to me about.  It is also important for students to remember that in my role as a school counselor I am bound by confidentiality and always here to help!

Personal information

I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. In 2009, I graduated from Truman State University (Kirksville, MO) where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, while also being a 4 year letter winning member of the Bulldog football squad.  In 2014, I earned my Masters degree in School Counseling from Western Illinois University.  I am also a certified coach in the state of Iowa and have experience coaching varsity football and varsity boys track.

In my spare time I really enjoy playing or watching sports.  Even if the weather isn’t ideal there is still chance I’ll go out and challenge the elements to get in a round of disc golf.  Yup, snow and/or rain included!
