Welcome to Van Allen! My name is Don LeBlanc and I have the pleasure to serve as the Van Allen principal since  2010-2011 school year. I am a graduate of Marquette University located in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and I earned my Masters of Educational Administration at Plymouth State University in Plymouth New Hampshire.

Van Allen is a community of learners with a student body of approximately 300 students. Our educational program starts at kindergarten and students leave us upon the completion of Grade 5. Without a doubt, our faculty and staff are highly dedicated and committed to providing academic, social, and emotional success for all of our students. Our goal is to provide your child daily successful learning experiences, and we understand the importance of strong teacher-student relationships. In addition to a unique and dynamic student body, we are very fortunate to have outstanding parental and community support.

For the 2017-18 school year, we look forward to new additions and changes to our school program, which include the following:

·        Working in collaboration with Iowa State Extension Office and Iowa Wesleyan students, Van Allen will be offering an afterschool program for students in Grades Two -Five.

·        Also, the physical education teacher, Lisa Lowery, and our school nurse Jennifer Striegel will guide us in a pilot project, School Wide Integrated Teaching Children’s Health (SWITCH) for students in Grades Four and Grade Five

·        Plus, we will pilot using Pickup Patrol tool, a web-based tool which will allow parents to contact the school with their child’s end of day transportation change from their child's regular dismissal plan, but also report a child's absence by 8:30 AM.

If I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at don.leblanc@mtpcsd.org or at our school phone number at 319-385-7771

Looking forward to seeing you in August!
